Crazy as it seems, movie awards season is in full swing, and the biggest awards ceremony of them all is less than a month away.

Let’s take a look at the nominees for the 89th Academy Awards!
One of the most important things to note about this year’s batch of nominees is the diversity represented. After two straight years of all-white actor nominees, the Academy has hearteningly selected the most diverse group of Oscar contenders ever. Progress!
As always, among the great movies and performances nominated, there are some big snubs. A major performance overlooked by the Oscars this year is Amy Adams’ turn in Arrival, a film which was nominated in many other categories. Clint Eastwood’s Sully, which featured an outstanding performance from the always-reliable Tom Hanks, was also snubbed in the major categories. The return of Mel Gibson to Hollywood’s good graces is another noteworthy story this year.
