Overall, the percentage of U.S. broadband households that use streaming media boxes has doubled in just the last two years to 14 percent.

Anthony Wood, founder and CEO of Roku, said the following about the news:

“We are delighted that independent research shows that we are the most popular streaming platform measured by usage on a U.S. household basis,”

Barbara Kraus, director, research, with Parks, believes that set-top boxes are a great value proposition for many and will continue to remain popular:

“Innovations such as next-gen game consoles and 4K or ultra-HD TVs will boost unit sales for these devices, but overall, consumers are reluctant to replace these big-ticket items solely for smart upgrades . . . As a result, streaming video media devices will have a thriving market because they can offer innovations such as streaming video at low prices.

Absolutely LOVE my ROKU! So many channels to choose from with it, and of course all the favorites are available like Netflix, Amazon, HuluPlus, Pandora, and new ones being added all the time.
If nothing on Cable, I can always find something to watch using my Roku & often times I prefer it to what is on regular tv.

My original Roku died this year after years of service. I replaced it immediately with a Roku 3.

I tried out a Roku, but after a week I returned it. For a few bucks more you can get a Bluray player with all of the streaming services I wanted, plus the ability to play disks and also files from a USB drive.

I have two set-top boxes a roku 3 and the Sony blu-ray Google TV. I like both and both have their pros and cons. But I do like the roku 3 because it is newer, smaller and has dedicated apps to streaming services.
