This year’s nominees for Best Picture are missing a few of my favorite films of the year, including Moonrise Kingdom and Skyfall, the latter of which many thought would be the first Bond film nominated for that award. I’m also a little surprised that Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty) and Ben Affleck (Argo) are missing from the Best Director list while their films sit on the Best Picture list. Leonardo DiCarprio (Django Unchained) also seemed a shoo-in for a Best Actor nod. Such are the fickle ways of the Academy.

Just like always, I’ll post my picks for the winners before the Academy Awards air on February 24. Until then, you can check out Oscars.org for the full list of nominees and thinking about your own picks for the winners. DiCaprio seemed like a shoo-in? He didn’t even get a GG nom. I’d say Denzel instead of John Hawkes was the only mild surprise in Best Actor.

Very glad to see Beasts of the Southern Wild getting so much attention. Definitely one of the best movies of the year.

I didn’t see Argo or Silver Linings…but I’d probably vote for those..so in that case, my vote would have to go wit Django.

I don’t get why The Master is up for all the main/supporting actors but not on the best picture list!

I’m not thrilled with any of the choices here.My guess is that Argo will win.Waiting for it to come out at Redbox. What would I do without my Redbox?

As soon as I see all the nominated titles, the Mighty, Mighty Shempster will indicate who will win and who SHOULD win.

Usually Shane and I are very close on both accounts each and every year.

    It was disappointing that:
“Moonrise Kingdom” was shut out and

    Kathryn Bigelow
    Ben Affleck
    Leonardo DiCaprio

    were not nominated. :(
