comcast_logoComcast’s pending deal to acquire a majority stake in NBC Universal will most likely have major ramifications for the digital content delivery business, say several analysts. Accoring to Video Business, “many expect the merged company to fully integrate the digital business into the traditional business, allowing consumers to access TV and movie content on whatever device they choose.

During a conference call last week, Brian Roberts, CEO of Comcast, said the following about the deal:

“[Comcast and NBC Universal are] a perfect fit…and [this merger] will allow us to become a leader in the development and distribution of multiplatform ‘anytime, anywhere’ media that American consumers are demanding.”

James McQuivey, an analyst with Forrester Research, expects that Comcast will be experimenting with multiple digital delivery options, which may include streaming content on set-top boxes and game consoles. Says McQuivey:

“Comcast. . . is in a position to start experimenting with digital content experiences that it couldn’t attempt before. . . This acquisition will succeed or fail purely on the basis of how quickly Comcast starts that experimentation.”

Convergence Consulting Group president Brahm Eiley expects that this acquisition will further accelerate the industry’s trend towards day and date title releases. Eiley did, however, voice his concerns over the power that this deal will allow Comcast to wield:

“The question becomes, given the change in how people are viewing content, what happens when you get large companies that own everything? What new models will they start applying?

What do you think, Insiders? How will Comcast, not necessarily known as the most benevolent of companies, use its new acquisition and the power that comes with it? What changes to the digital content domain can we expect in the coming months?

Major DRM is what you will get. Comcast were the people who started slowing down bittorrent traffic and tried to hide it, but got busted by some technical/network specialists.

Big corporation that just wants $$. NBC is already streaming TV shows, they don’t need this.

“It was forced to stop interfering with the popular BitTorrent programs used for file-sharing, after its covert practice of slowing down some users’ service was exposed in 2007”

Comcast Biggest earners is from their High-Speed Internet subscribers=make the best $$$$$; NOT TVs, MOVIES, etc.. which now I consider to switch, their HSI is not good as the used to be. This merger is crap either way.

There’s no chance that’s true, right?! The iPhone never used to be quite like that. I’m seasoned enough to remember the very first like that had mouse recognition
