With Netflix already starting to feel the heat from Amazon, this news can’t make the DVD by mail and streaming company any happier. Amazon has begun testing monthly Prime membership subscriptions.

Amazon’s Prime program, which costs $79 per year, includes unlimited access to the company’s Instant Video service. The service has been rapidly adding content in recent years, including titles that were once Netflix exclusives.

The monthly subscription, which costs .

99 per month, appears to only be available to some users. The low monthly price point puts the service in even more direct competition with rivals Netflix and Hulu Plus.

An Amazon spokeswomen offered the following terse comment on the test:

“We are always looking at ways to improve the shopping experience for our customers . . . We are testing a monthly Prime subscription.

Is Amazon’s Prime service any more appealing to you as a monthly service than as a once-a-year fee? Will this shift to go even more directly after Netflix customers pay off for Amazon?

No Closed Caption.. And the movies can’t come close to Netflix yet.
I have NetFlix online. Going to keep it. They have more then 2,500 movies with Closed Caption on them. And they will all be Closed Caption by 2014.
I weill keep with I have… Doing great with it!

Anyone notice that if you can’t afford the $79 once a year, they stand to get $95 from you by paying monthly? I don’t see the risk they are taking, they are just making a shrewd business move!

Am considering using Amazon’s 30 day free trial to get Free shipping thru Black Friday and the Christmas season and a few movies but not interested in keeping a subscription especially if they don’t have closed caption. I am good with the occasional RedBox movie a couple times a month.

Good Day to all. I am not a subscriber of Netflix, although I am considering becoming a subscriber, due to refusing to pay Brighthouse their outrageous fee for basic & standard TV channels. I have been in the habit of renting movies from Redbox, which I have no complaint about. As for Amazon’s $79 yearly fee for entertainment, I am going to watch & wait another year, before I even consider subscribing with them. For now & for me, Redbox rules!

Im a netflix subscriber and although netflix is not puting alot of new content now, like when they had a deal with starz the few movies added are great, and with the 7.99 amazon prime fee they’re more direct competition but although amazon its tempting nothing that netflix doesn’t already have and the ones they not its not worth switching, maybe in a year or two it could be different
