downloadAmazon has already become a creator of original entertainment content, but now the company wants to take things a step further. Amazon has announced that it will start work on the production of and acquisition of “Amazon Original Movies” that will hit its Prime Instant Video service just four weeks after their theatrical reviews.

The typical movie can take up to a year to hit streaming following its bow in theaters.

Roy Price, VP of Amazon Studios, is excited about this shakeup in the traditional movie window:

“We look forward to expanding our production efforts into feature films. Our goal is to create close to twelve movies a year with production starting later this year . . . We hope this program will also benefit filmmakers, who too often struggle to mount fresh and daring stories that deserve an audience.

I’m all for it… 9 times out of 10 I avoid going to to movie theaters due to high ticket prices and if it’s a movie I really really like, I’ll just buy it on blu-ray. So I think it’s high time to for the movie industry to get shaken up. I will say that our local movie theater chain, Marcus, has been doing some pretty good promo’s on certain days, started a rewards card (free popcorn) and such – and we have a “cheap seats” theater too, but having a recent movie available shortly after release to stream is pretty cool. However, I will say that I almost NEVER rent a movie for streaming. Not when I can snag it at my local library or redbox on the cheap.

So basically, these are going to be Made-for-Amazon films with an early (and probably limited) theatrical release.

I stopped going to the Theater. 95% of the new movies are Crap.
The cost to get in. The out of control kids/people. Joe Blow going 95 on the cell phone. Last week’s pop corn. Water Cokes.
I just put my $$ into a home Theater.
With a 8 Ft wide/4 Ft high screen. Got a blu-ray player and laser disc hooked up with it. NetFlix online. Warner Archive & Acorn Tv online from the UK all hooed up to it.I got this set up all for under $1,000 bucks. In the long run I am saving money.. If I see anything I want. I can get it at RedBox… Buy it at Walmart.
And I can have real pop corn with REAL BUTTER.. And good Cokes..
    Home is my Home Theater..
