Amazon Launches Xbox 360 Video App

If you’ve been waiting for Amazon Instant Video to make its way to your Xbox 360, today’s your lucky day. Amazon has announced an app that not only allows Xbox Live Gold subscribers to access its on-demand video service, but also features Prime Instant Video for Amazon Prime members.

Users can use an Xbox 360 remote or Kinect voice and gesture commands to browse and play videos.

Users can also make use of the new Whispersync feature, which allows them to begin streaming a movie or show on one device and switch to another without losing their spot.

Anthony Bay, Amazon’s VP for video, said the following about the new offering:

“Amazon Instant Video on the Xbox 360 console is among one of the most requested video features from our customers . . . Our integration with Kinect for Xbox 360 lets customers play and search for videos with the wave of a hand or the sound of their voice, and our Whispersync technology allows customers to switch between watching on their Kindle Fire and their Xbox 360 console, without losing their place.”

Xbox-owning Insiders, will you be making use of this new offering from Amazon, or does your console already offer plenty of entertainment content for your liking?

Now where is the Android App? I’m already considering dropping Netflix now, but Netflix works on our two cell phones and our Xoom tablet and Amazon does not (but they made an app for their lame Kindle Fire!)

Preface to this comment: I am a happy Xbox360 owner and user.

Now…I can’t believe that people don’t speak up about this to Microsoft. As I said above I LOVE my Xbox, but I can’t believe people get excited about the things “added” to the Xbox.

It is the only avenue to view these things where you have to pay twice.

I can watch netlix and I can order something from Amazon Video on my Blu-Ray or my Tivo and it costs me nothing EXCEPT to netflix or amazon.

To Watch on my Xbox would require me to pay a minimum of $8 for a month for XBOX LIVE, so then I can have the “privilage” of then paying for netflix or amazon.

Sorry Microsoft, too many other vieing options for this stuff that doesn’t cost an extra fee….Playstation, Blu-Ray Players, Tivo, Roku, internet ready TV’s…..blah blah
