Amazon Hikes Prime Pricing

downloadAfter threatening to do so for a couple of months, Amazon has finally announce that the price of its Prime service will go up. In addition to 2-day shipping, Prime also includes unlimited access to Amazon’s streaming library of movies and TV shows and is a major competitor to Netflix.

Amazon shrewdly increased its Prime pricing by annually, which was at the bottom of the range CFO Tom Szkutak publicly contemplated last month.

Amazon Prime will cost annually going forward, which is the first price increase in Prime’s nine-year history.

The big question is, will current or potential subscribers be scared off by the additional cost? RBC Capital Markets analyst Mark Mahaney thinks it may be a possibility:

“We wonder if a meaningful price increase would dissuade some on-the-fence potential Amazon Primers from ponying up for the membership,”

Are you a Prime subscriber or are you considering doing so? If you are, is the $20 increase a dealbreaker?

Ummmm…hellz to the yes its a dealbreaker!!!!
Its gone from $69 to 79 in the past couple years.
I dont know were the 9 years has com from but 100 bux is too much especially considering that when you buy stuff from prime it’s automatically more expensive anyways I do like the two-day shipping though

My subscription doesn’t renew until January, so I will keep prime until then. However, since prime is now more expensive than the other video streaming services, I will be shopping around next year.

I’m good to November then its good bye Prime, many other choices out there as far as streaming price is cheaper, current out movies are cheaper than most of Amazons (many not free with Prime) at many choices out there, and its Free shipping over $25 anyway(just a longer wait). $100 bucks sucks Amazon shame on you !!!!

Been on the fence for awhile. Was probably going to subscribe soon, but now probably won’t.

That was a deal-breaker for me. Considering the fast shipment of Amazon products anyhow – many arrive within a couple of days – (I wonder if they will slow that down to increase membership?) and the fact that I have to use an HDMI cord to stream their movies to my TV monitor – I will not be renewing. I have until September and it’s over.

I was seriously considering joining Prime, but now I am not so sure. Been on the fence for awhile, still sitting for now.

Probably won’t be subscribing once my membership runs out. I don’t order enough products from Amazon to really warrant having it, and I can stream video from so many other places and options. Netflix (although only $5 cheaper) has a lot of the stuff I need, along with HuluPlus. Layer in Redbox is now doing something, and it’s actually counter-intuitive for me to even mess with having Prime any more.

Thanks, but no thanks. $79 was something I was willing to do because it was only $6.58/month, and I MIGHT use the shipping. That extra $20 is amazingly a deal breaker.

I guess the number of people they lose wasn’t great enough to stop them from raising…oh well

Been a Prime member for 2 years and like it alot, you get some shows available no where else besides the TV channel and some shows earlier than Netflix. This year my finances don’t allow me to pay a year at a time so unless you get a month to month program I’ll have to leave. 9

Yup, I’m cancelling my membership now, this is going up way to much & this is the 3rd increase…. There was NO reason to hike up the already HIGH price IMHO…Sucks & was a bad move!
