In case there was any doubt in your mind that Amazon wants to beat Netflix at its own game, behold the new Prime subscription options. Previously, in order to enjoy a Prime Video subscription, you needed to pay the $99 annual fee for the entire Prime bundle, which includes free 2-day shipping and other goodies. That quaint time has now passed.
Amazon has decoupled Prime Video from the Prime bundle as a stand-alone option. For $8.99 per month (a buck cheaper than Netflix’s new pricing) you can have unlimited streaming access to Prime Video’s library. For $10.99 per month, you can have access to ALL of Prime’s benefits. The annual Prime payment option remains.

While these new pricing tiers are obviously less cost-effective than the one-time payment option, Amazon seems to be counting on many new subscribers to sample Prime without paying the larger fee and making the year-long leap. No doubt a day will come when Prime Video is a completely separate package from the rest of the Prime family.
