downloadAmazon Prime Video is gaining more eyeballs as the hyper-competitive streaming landscape heats up. According to new research from Sandvine, Amazon moved from eighth place to third in North American downstream traffic market share during peak viewing hours.

Netflix still holds a commanding lead, however, holding owning more than 35 percent of traffic, compared to Amazon’s 4.26 percent and Hulu’s 2.68 percent.

Hulu and HBO might be at a seasonal disadvantage, says Sandvine, since much of their content is dependent upon licensing agreements.

Said Sandvine’s report:

“Hulu and HBO are both especially susceptible to these fluctuations because much of their content is made available only after being broadcast on television and the variability of when new programming is available,”

Have you given Amazon’s Prime streaming video service a try yet, Insiders?

I have all 3 (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon). As for movies, there tends to be some overlap with Amazon/Netflix… I do watch a few shows on Amazon that Netflix doesn’t have but I think Netflix/Hulu gets the lion share of my streaming.
