I tried 3 different McDonald Redboxes this week and each box said they were not accepting any codes.

I have enough trouble getting any of your codes to work without the machines refusing to even let me try using any of your codes.

    Reba,

I have also noticed this happening lately. What I think is going on is that Redbox is throttling code usage at each machine.

This is speculation, but it could be one a a few things…

    1) If codes get used often at a particular location, Redbox doesn’t allow codes for a little while there…

    2) If a wrong code is entered too many times, Redbox stops allowing codes for a time…

These observations come from what I have seen when at the kiosk, but I have not thoroughly tested these theories… Time will tell.

I have the same problem, and never one code is correct. All I speak to says they have the same problem and redbox is accessing our email to sell to others. There are no free DVD’s. Redbox will get this and sell my email again, that is being done as of 2 weeks ago.

    Richard,

The codes do work quite often, so there are definitely still people using codes and getting free movies…

Regarding selling your email – what are you talking about? Redbox states in their Privacy Policy that they do not sell your personal information – and I believe them. They would be in a lot of hot water if they did that. There is simply no benefit for them to do so, and making such an unfounded claim in a public place is irresponsible.

I say we just keep trying the codes, and we will figure out what is going on. No matter what, Redbox is a great bargain at $1/day. Where else can you see new movies for that kind of money?

The “promo shared codes” do work. I have paid for one movie, and received the opportunity to get five additonal movies free of charge.

I agree that if too many “not active codes” are punched in, then the “red box” turns dumb on you. Also, you must really watch your fingers on the keyboard, it is so easy to be on the wrong key when punching in codes. So, bad typing will send the machine into “dumbness”.

We now have a new machine outside a local gas station, along with those inside the super markets. I’m afraid the outside machine will get “beat up” by frustrated customers. Already I see “footprints” on the clear keyboard pad. The people inside the gas station are getting frustrated dealing with the “redbox customers” who can’t get it to work, either “for real” or with “promo codes”. Its taking too much of their work time to go outside and help those out who don’t really know how to use the box.

My son and I have excellent results with the codes. Some do not work in Texas but most do for at least a little while. We don’t rely on the codes, they are a bonus! Lots of times, we keep the movie another day because the first day was free. If everyone only goes for the free DVD, why would Redbox stay in business? They couldn’t! If you have used the code with your credit card once, it won’t go again unless you use a different credit card. People abusing the machines to just get a free DVD should be arrested! That is immature to the MAX! Sorry, just read and had to vent!

I have noticed that they have not been working at Smiths lately and it even gave me the error that is was not for my zip code. That one was strange I picked the movie put in the code and then it asked for my zip code and said that code could not be used in my zip code. Strange.

    Tanja,

…and said that code could not be used in my zip code.

That is very interesting. Thank you for letting us know…

This is even more reason to check for the Codes that have been reported working/failed in your own state, not just the main codes list…

It does make sense for them to limit codes to areas where they are either new, don’t have a strong presence, or there is a lot of competition.

While I am sure they will still make codes available to all Redbox customers, they may get fewer over time. We just need to make sure we stay up-to-date by adding codes to the site and checking back often.

However, like I mentioned before, Redbox is still the best deal around, free or $1.

    Keep those promo codes coming!!!

You have lots of competition out there. There are kiosks in places other than RedBox that also charge $1 for a video.
So you need to use a one upmanship idea to get these people to use your machines. The idea of the promo codes should lure these folks away from the competition once they find out about RedBox.

    Keep up the good work!

Additional note – there are lots of disappointed customers out there who arrive at your kiosks between 6:40PM & 7 PM to return their videos & are forced to pay an additional $1 for a video they have already watched & are returning because people in line are dawdling & taking too long to decide on their choice for their next rental.
What happened to your return videos at 10 PM policy?

  12. Visitor [Join Now]
    Vi [visitor]

I don’t know about any return at 10pm policy, but I have had the same problem with returning video’s and having to wait in long lines. I think it would be great for Redbox to design a machine that would allow rentals on one side and returns on the other, so that people don’t have to wait while others make thier selections. Another plus to that idea is that there will be more DVD’s in the machine for those who want to rent.

    Just a thought!

PS: I too have had trouble getting codes to work recently. It is disapointing, but I don’t mind paying occasionally. If I can get one free per month, I’m pretty happy :)

How many free movies do you guys get from Blockbuster??? Or how many months does Netflix give you free? Do you get HBO free the night Sopranos is on? Its nice to get the codes and get a rental, but they have a business to run too. I got probably 10 free movies (not counting late fees) and that was pretty damn nice. Lot of really whiny people on here.
“oh, if you don’t give me free movies I’m going to the competition”
Well why would they care, you aren’t ever paying!!!

I agree regarding returns….having to wait endlessly in line to return a movie and then having to wait, again endlessly for the stupid machine to return to being able to rent a movie again. It seems to take forever for the machines to cycle back to being able to rent.
But the biggest peeve is waiting in line to return the movie. Can’t you redesign the machines to accept a return while someone is renting?
Otherwise we are thrilled with Redbox regardless of being able to get a free movie or not. As someone stated previously, who else has ever given you a free movie…certainly not Blockbuster…. stop whining!!!!

Redbox is the best rental system around here, it’s the only choice (cheapest too) other than blockbuster and a few other local rental places which charge $4+ for only one rental. Redbox is only $1 for a rental, so you can get 4 for the price of one rental at blockbuster. Don’t complain if the codes don’t work it’s only a dollar! The only other free way to get dvds is illegally so I wouldn’t complain.

After reading some of the comments, I have to say that some of the posters have not been Redbox customers for long. I had been using the codes at a Stop & Shop in Derby CT for months and had very few problems. I do believe that they are controlling usage of the codes more recently though, probably due to customers like me. I have been abusing the codes for months. I would use the same code for multiple credit cards. Once I cycled through my cards, I would use a new code and start the cycle again. Once in a while I would throw Redbox a bone and hold onto the movie for an extra day. I would also share a code with the people behind me.

Does any one know do the codes from the http://www.insidedvdplay.com work for the redbox’s?

    Thanks for you reply.

    Michael [administrator]

    Wendy,

No, those codes only work at DVDPlay…

Of course, there is always the chance of overlapping codes, so it is worth a shot, but not likely, I think.

Don’t waste your time using DVDPlay rental machine codes with REDBOX rental machines. WILL NOT WORK. What is the REDBOX code for Mondays in April?

  20. Visitor [Join Now]
    RICH [visitor]

2PAS4G4 IS THE CODE FOR TONIGHT. LOOKS LIKE IT’S A DIFFERENT ONE DAY CODE EVERY MONDAY UNTIL MAY 14 ACCORDING TO REDBOX.COM. YOU JUST REGISTER ON THE SITE THEN THEY TEXT YOU A CODE EVERY MODAY. THE CODES ARE GETTING A LOT MORE RESTRICTIVE, THE ONE ON LAST WEEK’S E-MAIL FROM THEM SAID IT WAS FOR NEW CUSTOMERS ONLY.

I noticed a lot of the comments here seem to be directed at Redbox… as if this site were owned and operated by them.

I understood that not to be the case. Rather, I thought that Michael owned and operated the site independantly.

    Is that no longer true?

  22. Administrator
    Michael [administrator]

    Joe,

I also notice that a lot of people direct their comments at Redbox here… I have many times said that this site is independent – and it even says it in the header of the site – but some people do think otherwise…

So, again I will say that I, Michael, do own and operate this site independently, and am not affiliated in any way with Redbox or its owners.

Today I tried using the redbox located in the Shoppers Food Market in Randallstown, and the machine said that my code did not match the zip code, I was using my card number because I thought that that was what the machine was asking me to enter. I tried it again and it said the same thing again. Tonight while I was online balancing my check book I notice that I’m being charged for a movie that I never received, because the machine would not let me. I need this charge to be cancelled, because I never got a movie.
