Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes has made several dismissive comments about Netflix over the last few weeks. At a recent investor conference, for example, Bewkes laughed off the rise of Netflix, comparing it to the “Albanian army taking over the world.”

David Pakman, a partner with venerable venture capital firm Venrock, thinks that Bewkes and other Hollywood content owners are being short-sighted and anti-consumer with their current policies. Pakman’s entire interview on the subject, found on TechCrunch, is fascinating and worth watching. Some highlights are after the jump.

Redbox has pulled the wraps off of its new website (update: not everyone can see it yet, so we’ve got some screenshots after the jump), and there are a bunch of new changes to make it more visually appealing and user-friendly. The new Redbox.com has an updated look and feel, with prominent placement of promotional banners and new releases. It also gives more space to Redbox’s social media as well as promotions, such as the current Groupon deal.

Blockbuster’s string of poor decisions goes back a pretty long ways, it seems. Ten years ago, BB’s then-CEO John Antioco was approached by Netflix CEO Reed Hastings about a potential partnership, which was laughingly brushed aside by the much larger Blockbuster.

Get out your “Blockbuster should pay a late fee” jokes, Insiders, because the bankrupt behemoth just got another extension on its deadline to file a reorganization plan. BB had previously negotiated an extension to December 15, and has now changed the terms of its bankruptcy operating loan to give itself until January 14 to file.

As Netflix transitions its focus and subscriber base over to its streaming service, the company hopes to shave off some of the more than $600 million it pays the USPS annually for its by-mail service. According to one analyst, however, Netflix’s projected postage savings will not offset the rising costs of acquiring streaming content.

If you’ve got any spare change lying around, Insiders, you might want to check into a new deal being offered by Redbox parent Coinstar. Now through the end of the year, Coinstar is waiving its customary¬†9.8 percent fee for customers who elect to receive the value of their change in gift cards. Coinstar is also offering an additional $10 gift card with the offer.

Netflix CFO Quits

After serving as Netflix’s chief financial officer for 11 years, Barry McCarthy has stepped down, according to a statement released by the company. McCarthy oversaw Netflix’s financials as it grew from a small upstart DVD-by-mail provider to a major player in the home entertainment industry.

Never one to rest on its streaming laurels, Netflix has struck a deal with Disney/ABC that will bring a bounty of new content to the company’s streaming customers. The new agreement will make some content available as soon as 15 days after it is first aired.
