Back in April of this year, we got news of some plans Redbox has to branch out from just DVD rentals into the streaming market, similar to the Netflix Watch Instantly system. Redbox plans to outline their plans for this service in their Q3 financial call next month.

Recently, Coinstar CFO J. Scott Di Valerio spoke at an investor event, mentioned that customers did not really want to download movies from its kiosks to flash drives. Right, so you are thinking: what does this have to do with streaming? Nothing at all.

I’ll keep this one short and sweet. The AP has a short blurb from Warner Chief Executive Barry Meyer on this. (Of course, he already said this last month, which makes me wonder who he is trying to convince bringing it up again.)

Meyer said the delay has helped boost video-on-demand sales by 20 percent to 30 percent and that DVD purchases were higher in the second through fourth weeks after their release for sale.

Of course, as we know, Paramount had something entirely different to say about the delay. Are they both being truthful, or is there some deceit going on here?

Poor Blockbuster. It is getting easier and easier to pick on them with all of their boneheaded moves recently. Can they do anything right anymore?

Redbox has just announced their additional expansion into several more convenience store chains in the northeast, southeast and midwest.

The deal is a way to expand the Redbox footprint to new convenience store locations in the Northeast, Southeast and Midwest, according to the company. Convenience stores that will feature Redbox kiosks include 7-Eleven, Circle K, Pantry, ExxonMobil, Kum & Go and Stripes, among others.

Has Redbox shown up at a convenience store near you lately? Do you rent from these locations?

The fall of the house of BB

Another day, another grim bit of news from the former king of video rental. Blockbuster’s Chief Financial Officer Thomas Casey has left the company, according to a BB regulatory filing.
